Samsung Galaxy S9 Series Mass Production to Start in January: Report

Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphones. They are expected to be launched in February this year. A new report suggests that Samsung has begun ordering components for the Galaxy S9 series, and mass production will start in January 2018. The report also mentions that a dual camera setup will be reserved for the Galaxy S9+, corroborating previous reports.

As we mentioned, a report from ETNews on Tuesday cites industry insiders to claim Samsung has already begun procuring components for the upcoming Galaxy S9 duo. Samsung will reportedly adopt the new SLP (Substance Like PCB) circuit boards to make room for bigger batteries and other parts.

SLP is a next-generation motherboard technology that allows for chips to be stacked together resulting in more space for other components. Apple recently employed a similar technology in its iPhone X, freeing up space for the new L-shaped battery that offers a bigger capacity. The SLP circuit boards will connect major smartphone parts like flash memory, application processor, and DRAM.

Jio v Airtel v Vodafone v Idea: 1GB 4G Data Per Day Plans Compared

Ever since Reliance Jio jumped into the Indian telecom scene, a price war has raged among major telecom operators to offer the most affordable prepaid packs and postpaid plans. Customers are, in turn, taking advantage of the cheapest mobile data and call rates in the world.

With the availability of 4G in India touching new highs this year, users are consuming massive amounts of data and operators are pandering to the needs with tariffs that offer high daily limits for data. We look at all the prepaid packs and postpaid plans that offer 1GB of 4G data per day. For the purposes of simplicity, we're excluding all packs and plans that offer more than 1GB data per day per month.

Nokia 9 leaked again, specs revealed through FCC website in the US

okia 9 is expected to launch soon, possibly even in January, and its details are now leaking online. In the latest leak, which comes from the FCC in the US, there are details that hint the Nokia 9 will be a bezel-less phone with a dual camera and a 5.5-inch screen. Although, there is nothing official about these details, the fact that they appeared on the website of FCC, which is a regulatory body in the US, means they are accurate.

A few days ago, the Nokia 9 had received 3C certification in China. These certifications as well as permission from FCC is sought for mobile phones usually just weeks ahead of their launch so chances are that the Nokia 9, which is going to a high-end from HMD Global that makes Nokia phones, may launch as early as this January.

Apple Slows Down Old iPhones With Weak Batteries, Geekbench Data Suggests

Apple Slows Down Old iPhones With Weak Batteries, Geekbench Data Suggests

Apple has allegedly made changes to iOS that deliberately scale down the performance of older iPhone models as their batteries degrade beyond a certain point, according to findings by smartphone performance testing firm Geekbench. In a blog post, the company says that its analysis of the scores of iPhone 6s devices running iOS 10.2.1 as opposed to iOS 10.2 show that there are now multiple points where scores cluster, below the single average point that was previously observed, and is typical of multiple tests running on the same device.

This change, as a result of a seemingly minor software update, suggests that the company has knowingly reduced the performance of some devices. The effect is even more pronounced with iOS 11.2. A similar analysis of iPhone 7 scores shows a typical concentration of scores at one level up until the release of iOS 11.2, when the same pattern of several clusters at lower levels emerges.

InFocus Vision 3 quick review: A bezel-less phone for the masses

he Infocus Vision 3 is not lacking in ambition in any way. It brings with it a dual camera setup, minimal bezels up front and a massive 4,000mAh battery - all for just Rs 6,999. With an 82.4 per cent screen to body ratio, the Vision 3 usurps the Micromax Canvas Infinity as the cheapest smartphone with an 'almost' bezel-less design.

Bezels are going the way of the Dodo these days and every manufacturer has either released or is in the process of releasing a so-called 'bezel-less smartphone'. With the Vision 3 , InFocus has finally joined the party and brought the bezel-less mania to an entirely new (read affordable) price point. Does the new kid on the block have what it takes to steal budget buyers away from Xiaomi's tried and tested options? Let's try to find out in our quick review:

Nanoparticles may help detect cancer early, are better than MRI detection

Using light-emitting nanoparticles, scientists, including those of Indian-origin, have developed a highly effective method to detect tiny tumours and track their spread, potentially leading to earlier cancer detection. The study, published in the journal Nature Biomedical Engineering, showed that the new method is better than magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and other cancer surveillance technologies.

In fact, if not for the minimal bezels up front, the Vision 3 would just blend in with every other metal-clad smartphone out there. The all-metal back is too slippery and attracts a lot of fingerprints. The perforations for the single speaker, located on the back panel, look outdated and a bit clunky.

AMAZON ECHO SPOT REVIEW: AN ALMOST-PERFECT SMART ALARM CLOCK

Alarm clocks haven't exactly been popular for a long time. Most people just use their phone as an alarm clock, since it's often found charging overnight next to their bed. But studies have shown that using a smartphone right up until we go to sleep and looking at it first thing when we wake up is perhaps not a healthy lifestyle. A smart alarm clock provides a way to get your phone out of your bedroom, yet still maintain useful things like weather reports, smart home device control, and of course, telling the time, without including distractions like email, social media apps, or a web browser. The $129.99 Echo Spot is taking another run at this problem, and it's the most promising attempt since, well, ever. The best way to put the Spot in context with Amazon's other Echo speakers is one of those SAT analogies: the Echo Spot is to the Echo Show what the Echo Dot is to the standard Echo. It's a smaller, less expensive version of the Show with virtually all of the same capabilities. It's basically a tiny Amazon Echo with an adorable circular screen.

The iMac Pro is a beast, but it's not for everybody

Apple originally announced the iMac Pro back in June, so if you're in the market for a computer like this, you likely already know most of what I'm about to tell you. The dearth of extremely high-powered Macs since the "trash can" Mac Pro has raised the stakes and the interest level among pros for this machine. So people are paying attention and probably are already speccing out their dream machine even as you read this.

But for the sake of completeness, here's the deal: the iMac Pro features Intel Xeon W-class processors with 8, 10, 14, or 18 cores - though for most tasks, Apple seems to be directing people to the 10-core model because its higher frequency is often more important than simply adding cores. You can also choose between two Radeon Pro Vega graphics options.

Thylacine DNA reveals weakness – and kinship with the kangaroo

The first full genetic blueprint of the long-extinct thylacine has revealed the animal suffered from genetic weakness well before it was isolated on Tasmania10,000 to 13,000 years ago.

An international team of researchers led by associate professor Andrew Pask from the University of Melbourne used DNA from the 106-year-old preserved remains of a juvenile thylacine or Tasmanian tiger to sequence the animal's genome, making it one of the most complete genetic blueprints for an extinct species.

Their findings, published in the journal Nature, provide new information on the biology of the unique marsupial and reveal that the population was in danger long before it came in contact with humans.

Big Tobacco's court-ordered ads make their debut

A wave of new tobacco ads debuted across prime-time television and published in newspapers this weekend, but they aren't promoting what you might expect.

They are "corrective statements" that a federal court judge ordered tobacco companies in the United States to release to inform the public about the dangers of smoking. They were released beginning Friday, according to the Department of Justice.

In 1999, the Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the country's largest cigarette manufacturers and tobacco trade organizations, claiming civil fraud and racketeering violations over the course of more than 50 years.

Then, in 2006, federal judge Gladys Kessler ruled that tobacco companies had violated civil racketeering laws and ordered them to put stronger language and warning labels in their marketing and to print ads detailing smoking's health effects.

Under court order, the ads are paid for by the tobacco companies Philip Morris USA, Lorillard, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and Altria Group.

Samsung Galaxy A5 2018 will most likely ship with Galaxy S8-like Infinity screen

According to the leaked listing, at least one of the two Galaxy A 2018 phones, will have an unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio. This phone is said to be the Galaxy A5 (2018) but since Samsung is known to maintain uniformity, as far as design is concerned, in both its A5 and A7 phones, we can expect the feature to be part of the Galaxy A7 (2018) as well. The unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio is a major headline of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ (and Galaxy Note 8) which is harbinger of a taller (and narrower) screen in a smaller footprint design. Nissan's sweat-sensing car seat signals dehydration

The technology, called Soak, changes colour if perspiration is high in salt, suggesting dehydration. Previous research by the European Hydration Institute and Loughborough University found that dehydrated drivers were as error-prone as those who had drunk alcohol. There are currently no plans to bring Soak into production. The sweat-sensitive coating, which was developed with Dutch design company Droog, is also applied to the steering wheel and changes it and the front seats from blue to yellow to signal dehydration. Prof Peter Wells, an expert in business and sustainability from Cardiff University Business School, said that measuring additional factors which impede drivers' abilities made as much sense as monitoring factors which affect the vehicle itself. "This is part of the overall idea that it's not just about monitoring the car but also the driver," he said .

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, infraorder Anisoptera (from Greek anisos, "uneven" and pteron, "wing", because the hindwing is broader than the forewing). Adult dragonflies are characterized by large, multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong, transparent wings, sometimes with coloured patches, and an elongated body. Dragonflies can be mistaken for the related group, damselflies (Zygoptera), which are similar in structure, though usually lighter in build; however, the wings of most dragonflies are held flat and away from the body, while damselflies hold the wings folded at rest, along or above the abdomen. Dragonflies are agile fliers, while damselflies have a weaker, fluttery flight. Many dragonflies have brilliant iridescent or metallic colours produced by structural coloration, making them conspicuous in flight. An adult dragonfly's com pound eyes have nearly 24,000 ommatidia each.

Sarahah: Our experience with this app

Back in primary and secondary school, when an admirer, (or adversary) lacked the courage to openly say what they thought about you, they wrote it on the washroom walls, where you, and the entire school, could read it.

In there, in private, they would fungua roho, (speak their mind) with abandon, leaving the recipient to figure out who the sender was. Woe unto you if the faceless admirer/adversary, left a shaming or abusive message because you would become the schools laughing stock. Fast forward to today, there is now a more sophisticated way to do just that: send messages anonymously; the channel is an app called Sarahah, which has been the talk of town lately.

Plants 'hijacked' to make polio vaccine

As well as helping eliminate polio, the scientists believe their approach could help the world react to unexpected threats such as Zika virus or Ebola. Experts said the achievement was both impressive and important. The vaccine is an "authentic mimic" of poliovirus called a virus-like particle. Why is the US dollar falling?

The value of the dollar index, which tracks the dollar against six major global currencies, has fallen about 10% since January. It pushed lower on Friday, even as demand for other safe-haven assets - typically a category that includes the US dollar - rose amid sabre-rattling between the US and North Korea. The plumage records a kind of "chemical passport" stamped with a signature of the locations visited. Dr Michael Polito, of Louisiana State University, US, told BBC News: "You can say: 'penguins are where they eat,' because a geochemical signature of their wintering area is imprinted into their feathers." Two species of penguin - Chinstraps and Adlies - are the focus of the study

The exquisite specimen is a type of amour-plated nodosaurid ankylosaur. It was camouflaged which suggests that, despite its tank-like appearance, it hid to avoid predation. A new species of dinosaur named Borealopelta markmitchelli has been discovered from an oil sand mine in Alberta, Canada, and is described this week in Current Biology.

With the help of VPNs, Chinese Internet users bypass the country's famous "Great Firewall" that heavily restricts their access to foreign sites. This also helps them in remaining hidden from Internet service providers. In line with Chinese government's crackdown on Internet services, Apple removed all major VPN apps from the App Store in China. VPN service providers in China on Saturday received a notification from Apple that their applications would be removed from the App Store "because it includes content that is illegal in China".In a statement, Apple said that earlier this year, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced that all developers offering VPNs must obtain a license from the government. "We have been required to remove some VPN apps in Ch ina that do not meet the new regulations. These apps remain available in all other markets where they do business," Apple said.

NASA observations reveal unreal soundscapes from the space environment around Earth

The particles are continuously in a violent storm of electromagnetic waves, known as plasma waves.
