'God complex' breast surgeon guilty

Ian Paterson, 59, carried out "extensive, life-changing operations for no medically-justifiable reason". His motives were "obscure" but may have included a desire to "earn extra money", Nottingham Crown Court heard. Paterson was found guilty of 17 counts of wounding with intent, relating to nine women and one man. Jurors also convicted him of three further wounding charges.

MP asks Facebook to tackle 'fake news' as election approaches

An MP has urged Facebook to tackle fake news in the run-up to the UK's general election on 8 June.

Conservative MP Damian Collins expressed his concernsto the Guardian newspaper, saying fake news threatened "the integrity of democracy".

A parliamentary inquiry examining the "growin g phenomenon of fake news" waslaunched by Mr Collins in January.

Samsung Galaxy S8's Bixby Assistant to Get Full Functionality, Wider Language Support in Q4


With the launch of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagship smartphones, the South Korean company also introduced its Bixby digital assistant but it was soon noted that it comes with support for just two languages - English and Korean. Now it seems like the new digital assistant will be getting support for more languages, at least German, in the fourth quarter this year. Alongside, Bixby will get wider functionality compared to what's currently on offer.

Is it time to scrap gender specific awards?

The MTV Movie and TV Awards have scrapped gender-specific categories after Billions star Asia Kate Dillon raised the issue ahead of this year's Emmys. Should other awards ceremonies do the same?

When Emmy Award organisers asked Asia Kate Dillon from Billions which category the female-born star wanted to be considered for, it proved a st ruggle because the performer identifies as gender non-binary.

Brexit: Theresa May suggests free movement extension

Free movement of people from the EU to the UK could be extended after Brexit, Theresa May has suggested.The prime minister said there would be an "implementation" phase once an exit deal had been struck, with business and governments needing a "period of time" to adjust to any new restrictions.

US-Mexico border crossings at 17-year low

The number of people arrested crossing the Mexico border into the US has fallen to the lowest level in 17 years.

There were fewer than 17,000 arrests of undocumented migrants in March, the least since 2000, according to US Customs and Border Protection.

Lung probe 'to help cut the unnecessary use of antibiotics'

A lung probe that diagnoses bacterial infections could prevent unnecessary use of antibiotics in intensive care units, researchers believe.

The fibre-optic tube can show within 60 seconds whether a patient needs to be treated with the drugs.

It is hoped the Proteus technology could tackle the emergence of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics.

Overwatch 'cheat-maker' told to pay $8.6m to Blizzard

The developer of the hit video games World of Warcraft and Overwatch has successfully sued a company that sold "cheat" tools for its titles.

ACalifornia court orderedGerman firm Bossland to pay $8.6m (6.8m) to Blizzard for 42,818 counts of copyright infringement.

Blizzard had argued that Bossland had reverse-engineered and otherwise altered its games without permission.

It follows related court rulings in the UK and Germany.
